Dengan singkatan Au, emas kini menjadi buruan semua manusia. Ini menunjukkan ketulenan Au menjadi perbezaan harga dengan Ag dan Cu. Semakin tinggi peratus Au semakin mahal harganya. Sebaliknya jika Ag dan Cu mendominasikan kandungan Au harganya sudah pasti menyusut.
Pelbagai teknik digunakan untuk menilai kualiti emas. Menghancur, mematah, memotong dan menggerudi telah ditinggalkan. Kini teknik moden yang dikenali teknik ujian Assay mengambil alih.
Pertama menggunakan teknik membezakan warna. Dikenali juga ujian assay menggunkan batu khas. Sample digosok pada batu khas. Plat emas berbagai gred di gosok sama. Asid digunakan untuk penentu warna. Kadar perbezaan adalah rendah 10-20 bahagian /1000.
